August 21, 2020, Edith Cavell Meadows and Ridge
Distance: 9 km
Elevation gain: 558 m
On Friday, August 21, we woke to dreary, socked in skies that promised rain throughout the day meaning that once again, the weather forecast was wrong. Nic left shortly after breakfast to drive back home so Fred and I were left wondering what to do on this day. Given the weather we opted to blitz some of the “tourist” hikes – Edith Cavell and Valley of the Five Lakes.
Hunching these trails would be busy, we got an early start for Edith Cavell in the hopes we would be done before most people showed up. The trail is established with elevation gained through a gentle incline. For sure, the meadows are beautiful. The abundance of wildflowers kept drawing our eyes downward as we hiked. While it did rain and snow, the cloud was high enough to offer pretty views all around.
All too soon, we were finished the loop and back at the parking lot. We had seen a lake from the ridge and so before leaving, Fred and I explored the area on the other side of the parking lot to see if we could reach the lake. Unfortunately, we could not. As car after car after car was now pulling in, Fred and I opted to leave and head over to Valley of the Five Lakes.
